Chanel Summer 2015 Nail Polish Swatches & Review : All Lacquered Up
As most of you now know, Chanel reformulated their Le Vernis Nail Colour ($28 each) earlier this year into a new and improved formula with longer wear. Most of the shades have been discontinued and pulled from counters and most places online (at the time of this post old colors are still showing up online at Saks.com). The new formula has been launched in 15 shades, 5 of which are re-promoted shades of classic colors (just in the new formula). After reviewing three shades Camélia 506, Gitane 510 and Roubachka 514 (review, swatches, old vs. new bottle and brush shots all posted here) I received an overwhelming amount of requests to review additional shades and the Chanel team kindly sent some of the most requested shades for me to review and swatch for you. There are six that I’ve swatched and tested. Formulas of all shades offer smooth streak-free coverage and were easy to apply. Pigment in general of the new formula does seem to be on the more opaque side (think along the lines of the old Dragon formula) with a few exceptions of colors that have a sheer or jelly finish. Quirky, Busy, and Beautiful: Chanel Longwear Le Vernis Part II: The Reds
Chanel Le Vernis Mirabella (623) was the one nail polish from the Reflets d’Ete Collection that I had my eyes on the moment I spied the press images online. Orange is de rigueur this Summer 2014, and Mirabella was simply described as “orange”. I don’t know if there are different batches of Mirabella, but the one I have on hand seems to be a doppelgänger. Most of the online images and descriptions showed Mirabella to be a warm orange, but on me it is a neutral-cool vermillion with hints of red (or pink depending on your perspective). And just to give you an idea of how un-orange it is, I’ve swatched it side-by-side with a couple other orange polishes in my stash. When swatched right next to the nail lacquer from the Dior Printemps-Ete 2014 Backstage Box (reviewed here), Mirabella immediately looks much more red, even a little neon. YSL La Laque Couture 44 Ambre Gingembre (reviewed here) is not a true comparison, except to show how much cooler Mirabella really is, and again, pulling more red less yellow as I’d expect from an orange polish. The formula is true to my usual experience with Chanel Le Vernis, which is to say, disappointingly prone to […]
