Worn by Coco Chanel as she strolled along Etretat beach in Normandy. An exotic flower, the camellia comes from a family of native Asian shrubs with shiny evergreen oval shaped leaves and luxuriantly blooming flowers. There are thought to be around 120 different varieties of camellia. With infinitely more couture interpretations of nature’s beautiful flower there is a longevity to this code that is as fresh and relevant in today's collections as it was in 1913. A symbol of carnal desire, camellias arrived in Europe in the mid 19th century, accentuating the beauty of both aristocratic and society women; flattering their decollates and adorning their hair.
